Event organisers Champions have secured the opening day Pro-Am title after a tightly contested victory at the Forest of Arden course.
The team, which was made up of pro Miguel Angel Martin, and amateurs Matt Hayes, William Pawley and Mike Dobell, topped the leaderboard just ahead of team Diginius and team Farmfoods, with scores of 84, 83 and 81 respectively.
There were also top ten results for Ian Woosnam OBE and Paul Lawrie, both finishing with scores of 79.
For Miguel, it was yet another victory in the Farmfood’s series of tournaments, after taking the Celeb-AM title at the British Par 3 Championship in August.
Commenting on the win, the Spaniard said:
“What a team! We bonded really well.
“I hope I keep winning momentum for the week – these guys have given me some power I think so I’m feeling really good.”
The amateur pair of William and Mike were also equally delighted to taste victory:
“It was our first time playing the course, so we found it difficult, despite winning! The conditions were tough but we’re really glad to have come through it all.”
Attention now turns to the Alliance tournament, where the likes of Thomas Levet and Markus Brier will be battling it out for the title.
