Following yesterday’s second round, three of this weekend’s players faced their toughest interview yet as nine year old George Crompton, a young rising star in the sport, grilled them on all things golf.
As part of the event’s ‘Junior Reporter’ feature the charismatic youngster sat down with Paul Lawrie OBE, Thomas Levet and Phillip Price.
George came armed with questions about their career as well as a series of cheeky ones which included asking Scotsman Lawrie if he has ‘ever seen the Lochness Monster’ and Price if as a Welshman he ‘has lots of sheep in his house’.
He also asked the question that Frenchman Levet is probably still asking himself now ‘why did you jump in a lake’ – noting his famous celebration at the French Open in 2011 which resulted in a broken leg and six-weeks out of play.
As well as this, he caught up with yesterday’s overnight leader Paul Broadhurst who gave details on the day’s play and what he would need to happen for him to continue his lead in today’s final round.
The junior reporter element was a fantastic opportunity for George, who recently triumphed at the European Junior Golf Tour with a score of three under par, to rub shoulders with big names from the Staysure Tour.
It was an equally enjoyable experience for the players who later took to Twitter to praise George including Lawrie who wrote “Great fun being interviewed by young George this afternoon proper cheeky wee chap but he was great” to his 46.1k followers.
George, with the help of parents, uses his Twitter platform @juniorgolfdude1 to engage with professional players and chart his rising journey in the sport.
