With the inaugural Farmfoods European Senior Masters at the Forest of Arden Marriott Hotel & Country Club just days away, celebrities playing at this year’s event have been announced.
Competing in the Pro-Am on Thursday, will be England cricketing hero Stuart Broad MBE, before flying out to Australia as England aim to defend the Ashes, and recently departed Scotland boss Gordon Strachan OBE.
Sky Sports F1 star Johnny Herbert will also be taking part, as will former Nottinghamshire and England batsman James Taylor, BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker, ‘Soccer Saturday’ and former Aston Villa striker Alan McInally, as well as Team GB athletics hero Derek Redmond and ex-Wolves forward Don Goodman.
The Pro-Am gets underway at 12noon this Thursday, with a number of the stars of this weekend’s Professional Tournament in action alongside the celebrities, and other amateur golfers. Ian Woosnam OBE, Sam Torrance OBE and tournament host will be among Thursday’s professionals taking part.
Other professionals involved in the event include the likes of former Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, former British Masters winner Barry Lane, Italian Ryder Cup player Costantino Rocca, Britain’s greatest amateur Gary Wolstenholme MBE and Swiss star Andre Bossert.
Also in attendance are current leader of the European Senior Tour Order of Merit, Clark Dennis, winner of last month’s Travis Perkins Masters, Philip Golding and 2016 Rookie of the Year Magnus P Atlevi too, as well as record European Senior Tour winner Carl Mason, Swedish Ryder Cup player Jarmo Sandelin and senior Irish star Des Smyth.
Hosted by 1993 Ryder Cup star Peter Baker, the Farmfoods European Senior Masters will serve as the penultimate event on this year’s European Senior Tour schedule. It is the first tournament of its kind in the Midlands for a decade, and the Forest of Arden should provide a testing challenge for all professionals, with the winner rewarded with an impressive €50,000, as part of the total €200,000 prize fund.
David MacLaren, head of the European Senior Tour, said: “As well as one of the strongest professional fields we’ve had, with a record equalling 14 former Ryder Cup players, the line-up of celebrities is great.
“From Gordon Strachan to Stuart Broad to Johnny Herbert, there are a whole range of sports being represented, in what is set to be a great Pro-Am this Thursday.”
Event organisers, leading brand agency Champions (UK) plc, will be bringing the experience of successfully organising the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship at Nailcote Hall for the past ten years to the Forest of Arden.
Champions Managing Director Matthew Hayes said: “With the event just days away, it’s great to see so many big names at the first Farmfoods European Senior Masters.
“Having one of England’s best cricketers in Stuart Broad just weeks before the 2017 Ashes is fantastic, I’ll look forward to seeing how he gets on at the Forest.”
